PASACAT will host the 14th Annual Parol Festival on Saturday, December 3, at the Jacobs Center, Celebration Hall, 404 Euclid Avenue, San Diego, 1pm – 5 pm.

The festival is a multi-generational event in which attendees will experience a Philippine village during the holiday season. Activites include cultural performances by PASACAT dancers and Rondalla, BIBAK Youth, St. Rita’s Folk Choir and Tea Time Ensemble. A merienda of pancit, lumpia and pandesal will be served and is included in the ticket price of $12 for adults and $8 for students.

The popular parol making workshops will be conducted where many children have enjoyed making a parol during the festival. PASACAT will display part of their forty year collection of costumes, books and artifacts as part of the “Philippine Museum on Wheels.”

The highlight will be the Parol Competition where winning parol designs and construction will receive $50 in the elementary, secondary and high school categories. The Grand Prize Competion will be awarded to the top three – first prize, $250, 2nd prize, $150 and 3rd prize, $100.00. Registration is $10 for the Grand Prize Competion only.

PASACAT will display a variety of parols, from hand-made parols by Jose Morales, Jr. and those from the Philippines, with a number of the more contemporary capiz shell parols available for sale.
